How our Platform works
To understand how our Platform works, think of the cable delivery model in the TV industry. Each cable company integrates various content channels (TV networks) into a single delivery platform accessible seamlessly through a TV set-top box. Each group of channels is sold as a service bundle – movies, sports, kids, and so on – with optional on-demand channels or pay-per-view events that are available from a service menu.
In this analogy, our Platform is the set-top box that allows you to gain seamless access to the educational web services that you want, when you want them and without having to remember lots of usernames and passwords. Your educational institution can also determine what it wants you to see and use for teaching and learning based on the web services it has licensed and subscribed to. However, unlike TV content, Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) services are more complicated to provision. These web-enabled services – web apps, mobile apps, online courses, digital content, web tools – require enterprise data uploads before they can be useful, as well as role-based and identity-based authentication for accessing each of the end user accounts. For instance, in a school setting, administrators, teachers, students and parents might each need to be given access to different types of data and features within the same application – our Platform enables an IT Administrator to set up ANY role and distribute web services based on different permissions.
Components of our Platform
Our Platform is the sum of 3 main components that support the education enterprise:
A virtual appliance that enables educational institutions (or their partners such as service integrators, School Districts or the State) to administer, customize and integrate the end user identity data and customize role-based policies to enable Single Sign-On access to any web-enabled service – web apps, mobile apps, online courses, digital content, web tools, community (-ies) and other platforms – on any device.
The Admin Console securely automates identity data life cycle management for institutions, improving web security and simplifying overall system administration.
An easy to use, point and click tool that can be embedded as a “widget” inside any Portal, LMS or on any authenticated end user device, providing users with secure access to any web-enabled service via a Connector that has been configured and provisioned by an Administrator using the Admin Console.
Connectors are the Single Sign-On “link”, represented by an icon in any Passport, to each of the web-enabled products and services which have been integrated into our Platform and are being made available for purchase and/or use by an educational institution. In three short steps that take minutes, rather than hours, an educational institution can deploy a Connector for any web-enabled service which is wishes its end users to have access to ensuring immediate role-based access.
Our Single Sign-On Marketplace is aimed at the enterprise (i.e. school or college) and is like a shopping mall but is focused on best-of-breed web-enabled educational services – apps, tools and content services, both free and paid for – made available in online catalogs within different storefronts – and offered individually or within bundled solutions.
